Actor Ravi Mohan’s production venture Bro Code, starring himself, S.J. Suryah, and others, is facing legal trouble with New Delhi-based alcoholic beverages company Indo Bevs Private Limited, calling upon Ravi Mohan Studios Private Limited not to use the trademark ‘Bro Code.’

The Madras High Court, however, has granted an interim injunction restraining Indo Bevs from interfering with the production, publicity, marketing, distribution, or release of the movie by issuing threats to distributors, exhibitors, OTT/satellite TV partners, and other licensees.

Justice V. Lakshminarayanan granted the ex-parte interim injunction for a limited period of three weeks following a commercial suit filed by Ravi Mohan Studios, and directed the counsel for the production company to make sure that a notice was served upon the beverages company by then.

“In case the notice is not served, the interim order will not be extended beyond the period of three weeks,” the judge made it clear, after observing that the production house had made out a prima facie case in its favour for the purpose of grant of an ex-parte interim injunction.

Arguing on behalf of the plaintiff company, its counsel S. Karthikei Balan told the court that Bro Code was an action comedy movie for which Ravi Mohan Studios had engaged the services of several high-priced cine actors. Wide publicity had been given for the movie since June 9, 2025.

The counsel said, the production of the movie was under way and that it is scheduled to be released in 2026. However, a teaser of the movie release on August 27, 2025, had garnered great interest among the audience, with it having received a whopping 11 million views, he added.

In September 2025, Indo Bevs sent an e-mail to Ravi Mohan Studios asking the latter to desist from using the title ‘Bro Code’, since it was being used as a trademark for an energy drink as well as a carbonated wine-in-a-pint format drink.

Mr. Balan told the court that the alcholic beverages company could not issue groundless threat of infringement of trademark when the application filed by it with the trademark registry was still pending consideration due to an objection raised for its registration.
