U.S. financial services firm Charles Schwab has established a technology capability centre in Hyderabad and plans to have 2,000 employees, at the facility, by 2027.

The 3.45 lakh sq ft facility of Schwab India will support the company’s U.S. business through technology development, engineering talent and operational capabilities. Over time, there are plans to move select work currently outsourced to technology contractors largely based in India to Schwab employees based in Hyderabad.

The hiring will be phased, with the existing headcount of 200 increasing to about 500 in the first year and 2,000 by next year, the company said on Wednesday (April 19, 2026) after Telangana’s IT and Industries Minister D.Sridhar Babu inaugurated the centre.

Hyderabad is increasingly building the technology that powers trading and brokerage for the world. From wealth and asset management to market infrastructure, AI and risk technology, it now has capabilities across the entire financial markets value chain, the Minister said.

Charles Schwab’s decision to establish its presence here is a strong validation of this capability and the depth of the ecosystem Telangana has built. “Our ambition is to build Hyderabad as a global capital markets and wealthtech hub, where global financial institutions, technology companies, fintechs, academia and subject matter experts come together to build the next generation of global finance,” Mr.Sridhar Babu said.

City home to 475 GCCs

Hyderabad is home to nine of the world’s top 10 brokerage and trading institutions, covering the full stack of capital markets capabilities and representing roughly $40 trillion in assets under management. They are part of the broader ecosystem of more than 475 global capability centres (GCCs) that give global companies access to a deep pool of technology talent and capabilities. “What sets Hyderabad apart is that we are moving well beyond the shared services and support operations that traditionally defined this sector,” he said in a release.

“We are building a centre that will contribute to Schwab’s technology capabilities for years, “ Pradeep Menon, Country Head and Managing Director, Schwab India said.

“Schwab India strengthens our ability to serve the 48 million account holders and 30,000 employees who rely on our technology every day,” said Christopher Wyse, Managing Director, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Charles Schwab.
