The Keralam Industries department has sanctioned repairs and maintenance for units under the Kerala State Textile Corporation Limited (KSTC) as part of its programme for rejuvenation and revival of viable public sector units.
The Board for Public Sector Transformation (BPT) had earlier this year submitted a proposal for maintenance work under the programme.
The proposed project is meant to carry out urgent repairs and maintenance of major machinery as well as to carry out power house repair of units. The mill-wise requirement has been assessed based on the condition of machinery, urgency of repairs, and production needs. The maintenance project is expected to improve machine efficiency and productivity, yield better yarn quality, increase market competitiveness, and ensure energy savings, improved safety and extended life of machinery.
The Malabar Spinning and Weaving Mills has been allocated ₹30.35 lakh, Kottayam textiles ₹30.40 lakh, Edarikkode Textiles ₹23 lakh, Prabhuram Mills ₹34.40 lakh, Komalapuram Spinning and Weaving Mills ₹29.40 lakh, and Uduma Textile Mills ₹30.25 lakh.
