This was reported by the Kherson Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), according to Ukrinform.

“On the morning of August 19, 2026, Russian troops carried out an artillery attack on the city of Kherson,” the statement reads.

It is noted that an enemy shell struck the grounds of the Cathedral of the Dormition, causing significant damage to the central entrance, devastating the church’s facade, and shattering the windows.

Another shell struck the grounds of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Sophia, shattering the windows and damaging the church’s facade.

As reported by Ukrinform, during a massive shelling of Kherson by Russian forces on the night of February 20–21, the Greek-Sofia Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary sustained damage.
