A photograph can capture a moment and preserve its emotion and significance for ever, said NTR district Collector G. Lakshmisha.

Speaking at the World Photography Day celebrations held at the Collectorate on Wednesday, Mr. Lakshmisha said photographs serve as living records of important events and reflect the emotions, culture, development and aspirations of society.

The Collector extended his greetings to photographers on World Photography Day and highlighted the crucial role played by photojournalists in documenting important events and bringing them to the public. He said the district administration was organising photography competitions every year to identify, encourage and recognise the talent of photographers.

Video journalists and amateur photographers would also be included in the competitions, he added.

A total of 221 photographs were received for the district-level photography competitions conducted in three categories, covering Andhra Pradesh culture, heritage and tourism; youth, P4, economic development and welfare; and best news pictures. The jury selected 27 photographs, and the winners were presented with cash prizes, certificates of appreciation and mementoes.

In the first category, the first prize went to photojournalist Y.V.V. Satyanarayana; in the second category, The Hindu’s Senior News Photographer G.N. Rao won the first prize and in the third category, The Hindu’s Senior Special News Photographer K.V.S. Giri won the first prize.

An exhibition featuring the award-winning photographs was organised as part of the celebrations.
