Pixel Watch owners got an unpleasant warning about Google Health, but it’s turned out to be just a false alarm.
Some owners of the original Pixel Watch got a message in the Google Health app that said, “Update your watch to keep using Google Health. Your watch is running an older version of Wear OS and will soon stop syncing sleep and workout data with Google Health. Update your watch to the latest version to keep tracking your health.”
This was alarming news since the first generation Pixel Watch stopped receiving updates in October of last year (though it had a maintenance update a few months later in March).
Pixel Watch owners took to Reddit to vent, which resulted in Google clarifying that the message was actually the result of a bug and the Pixel Watch will continue to sync with Google Health.
Those with a Pixel Watch do need to update to Wear OS 4 for this, however, as per a message that one of the mods in the Pixel Watch community received from Google:
“Thanks everyone for providing feedback. To clear up the recent confusion: the Pixel Watch 1 remains fully supported. We had a bug where too many of you saw this card incorrectly, thanks for raising this, this has now been resolved.
In order to keep working your watch needs to be updated to Wear 4 or newer for the app to continue working properly. You can find step-by-step instructions on how to check for and install the latest Wear update here: https://support.google.com/wearos/answer/6321140?hl=en”
Timing is everything
For any Pixel Watch owners who did consider switching after receiving the message, the timing was impeccable since early reviews for Google’s latest offering, the Pixel Watch 5, just dropped.
AP’s Andy Boxall has worn it for nearly a week and said, “I dislike the way the Pixel Watch 5 looks, yet in every other way, it has already proved it’s probably the best Android smartwatch you’ll buy this year.”
While Boxall is still formulating his thoughts on it in a comprehensive review, you need to find out why he calls it “disgustingly good.”
