The first trailer for Whalefall did what all trailers aspire to do. It grabbed you. It sucked you in. And it instantly made you want to see this movie you maybe hadn’t heard of two minutes earlier. Well, now that you know and want to see Whalefall, its second trailer has to give you a little bit more without ruining anything. And it, in fact, does that by going to the only place it could: inside the whale.
Directed by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You), based on a novel by Daniel Kraus, Whalefall stars Austin Abrams (Weapons) as a young man searching for answers about the death of his father, played by Josh Brolin. He does this in the ocean, only to be swallowed whole by a giant whale. Here’s the new trailer.
While the first trailer focused on that terrifying setup, this one really gets to the heart of the movie. The character has an hour to live and is stuck inside a whale. How does he get out? Does he get out? We’ll have to go to the theaters in October to find out.
And before you go, “This is the dumbest idea ever,” we have two responses. One is yes. It kind of is, but it’s the simplicity that makes it so great. And two, you can, in fact, get swallowed by a whale. “Itâs funny, I think the things that will get dinged for not being accurate are actually accurate,â Duffield said recently. âOf course, there are liberties that we had to take for movie-making purposes, but we really tried to be as accurate as possible by working with a lot of whale experts.â
Co-starring Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd, Whalefall opens on October 16. Whale (get it?) you be there?
