By the time Paramore released Brand New Eyes, the group’s third full-length, back in the fall of 2009, the band was already hugely successful. Paramore found fame in the underground alternative rock space with its debut set, All We Know Is Falling, but it was Riot, which arrived two years later, that helped establish the Hayley Williams-fronted group as a real force to contend with – and just among those who closely followed pop punk. That second project produced the smash “Misery Business,” which remains a Paramore standard, even though certain lyrics are now seen as controversial and Williams no longer sings them as originally written.
This week in the United Kingdom, Brand New Eyes returns to multiple rankings and becomes a bestseller again, seemingly thanks to new physical editions reaching fans. More than a decade and a half after its release, listeners are still spending money on one of Paramore’s most important and earliest albums.
Paramore’s Brand New Eyes Returns to Two Sales Charts
Brand New Eyes returns to two sales-focused U.K. rosters this week. The set reenters the Official Physical Albums chart at No. 91. It also breaks back onto the Official Albums Sales ranking a bit lower, landing at No. 97.
Brand New Eyes Returns After a Two-Year Absence
In both cases, Brand New Eyes has been missing from the sales tallies where it returns this week since August 2024.
The set earns only its third appearance on the Official Albums Sales chart. Brand New Eyes debuted at No. 68 in August 2024, then slipped to No. 92 before disappearing. Now, almost exactly two years later, it appears again.
Brand New Eyes has enjoyed a much longer run on the Official Physical Albums roster. The project has accumulated 49 weeks on the ranking – just shy of a full year.
The Official Physical Albums chart ranks the bestselling albums in the U.K. on physical formats such as CD and vinyl. Brand New Eyes has climbed all the way to No. 2 on the tally. The full-length debuted in that runner-up position in October 2009, when it was blocked from the summit by Madonna’s Celebration, a non-mover at No. 1.
Paramore Changed Its Sound With Brand New Eyes
Brand New Eyes produced five singles during its original run, and perhaps the most important in terms of broadening Paramore’s sound was “The Only Exception.” The track was much slower and more acoustic-based than many of the pop-punk and alternative rock cuts that had helped bring the group to the mainstream. “The Only Exception” showed a different side of Paramore and proved that fans were willing to follow the musicians as the musicians experimented with new styles and pushed beyond the sound that first made it famous.
Paramore Fills Two Spots on the Rock Chart
Paramore also fills two spaces on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart this week, and both of its titles climb. Brand New Eyes rises from No. 25 to No. 20, while Riot makes an even larger jump, moving from No. 38 to No. 29.
Both albums have proved remarkably durable on the genre-specific roster. Brand New Eyes has now spent 228 weeks somewhere on the Official Rock & Metal Albums ranking, while Riot is up to 368. Both of those releases have also conquered the tally in the past.
