A 21-year-old Dalit woman, a BA graduate, was abducted, gang-raped, murdered and the body thrown into an open well in Hokrani village under the jurisdiction of Sirwar Police in Raichur district on Wednesday evening.

The Sirwar Police have registered an FIR against four Hokrani residents identified as 22-year-old Gundya, 22-year-old Mahanthesh, 23-year-od Veeresh and 45-year-old Mundargi Basawaraj following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.

According to the complainant, who is a daily wage worker, the victim went out for defecation towards the village outskirts near the Birappa and Palamma temples around 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

When she failed to return, her mother went in search of her and found her discarded slippers and a water mug nearby. Local women reportedly informed the family that they earlier heard loud noises in the vicinity.

Despite an extensive overnight search by the family members, the victim remained untraceable.

On Thursday morning, a local panchayat worker Mahmood alerted the family after village resident Basappa Sahukar spotted a body floating in the nearby Doddyala well from his rooftop.

The victim’s family eventually identified the deceased. The body reportedly bore severe injuries, showing clear signs of struggle and assault.

The complainant said that the four accused abducted his daughter while she was outside, subjected her to gang rape and subsequently, murdered her to conceal the crime before dumping the body into the well.

Following the complaint, the Sirwar Police registered Crime No 158/2026 under Sections 137(2) [kidnapping], 103(1) [murder], 70 [gang rape], 238 [causing disappearance of evidence of crime] and 3(5) [common intention] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 along with Section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act 2015.

Following the incident, Raichur Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri and other senior police officials visited Hokrani village to inspect the crime scene.

Sniffer dog units and fingerprint experts were deployed to gather forensic evidence, while emergency personnel retrieved the victim’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.

“We have registered a case and launched a full-scale investigation. A team of police officers has been formed to track down and arrest the accused,” Mr. Giri told the media.

The complainant has said that his daughter was a BA degree holder and was staying with them.
