The State government has designated the Cyber Crime Wing Headquarters as the Tamil Nadu State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (TN-S4C) for effective co-ordination between law enforcement agencies of the Union and State governments for swift assistance to cyber crime victims.

The move follows a Supreme Court order dated December 1 last year in a suo motu writ petition, directing the Union and States/ Union Territories to establish and operationalise a mechanism for effective coordination between them on matters concerning ‘Digital Arrest’.

Subsequently, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs sent a letter directing the establishment of such centres as State-level nodal agencies for the prevention, detection, and investigation of cyber crimes as well as for providing prosecution support and a coordinated response.

It may be recalled that the State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre located at the Cyber Crime Wing Headquarters had already been declared as a police station with jurisdiction over the entire State.

Director-General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal had requested the government to notify the existing specialised division as TN-S4C at Chennai, thereby achieving complete alignment with national frameworks.

Following the letter from the DGP, the State government issued an order designating the Cyber Crime Wing, in addition to its existing functions as a police station, as the TN-S4C at Chennai.

The centre is located at the Cyber Crime Wing Administrative Building, Police Training College Complex, Ashok Nagar. It shall function as the State nodal agency for cyber crime coordination, and facilitate inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing, capacity building, cyber forensic support, and other measures for the effective enforcement of cyber laws, according to the order.

The centre shall function under the immediate administrative control of the Additional Director-General of Police, Cyber Crime Wing.
