Netflix’s extremely stylish animated revenge tale Blue Eye Samurai was renewed soon after its release in November 2023, but fans have already waited nearly three years for Mizu (Maya Erskine) to continue her quest to find and kill her father. That wait is finally paying off as Netflix shared some very good news about the series at Anime NYC on Aug. 20.

Blue Eye Samurai season two will be released in January 2027, and Netflix shared a 90-second teaser of the new season. Some of the footage comes from the season 1 finale, where the arms dealer Abijah Fowler (Kenneth Branagh) persuades Mizu not to kill him by offering to help her travel to London to find the two surviving white men who might be her father. The teaser shows their sea voyage doesn’t go smoothly, with the ship struck by a storm that sends some sailors overboard. Mizu screams in fury and reaffirms her choice to pursue revenge as she steers the ship.

Mizu wakes up on deck with a sword pointing at her, presumably held by Fowler, who must have been released from the cell he was held in at the end of season 1. The two appeared distressingly chummy in footage of Mizu’s arrival in Europe, which was shown at the Annecy Festival in June. So far we haven’t seen any more of the allies Mizu left behind in Japan, though an earlier preview confirmed that the show isn’t abandoning them. Mizu’s apprentice Ringo (Masi Oka) is looking for a new purpose, while Princess Akemi (Brenda Song) navigates royal politics following the death of the Shogun.

Netflix delivered even more good news, confirming that the series’ third and final season is already in production. Hopefully that means we won’t have to wait another three years to see the end of Mizu’s story.
