All rehabilitation projects for survivors of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides will be completed in a time-bound manner, Agriculture Minister T. Siddique has said.
He was inaugurating the distribution of additional financial assistance sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) for the Micro Plan project being implemented through the Kudumbashree Mission to support the livelihood needs of the survivors at a function held in Kalpetta on Friday (August 21).
Mr. Siddique said the list of beneficiaries for the rehabilitation of disaster-affected people would be finalised in a time-bound manner. Compensation for traders and building owners who suffered losses in the landslides, as well as the takeover of existing loans and making agricultural land cultivable, would also be completed on schedule, he added.
“The government, district administration and local self-government institutions are providing all possible support to help the survivors rebuild their lives with confidence,” the Minister said.
An amount of ₹1.98 crore had initially been sanctioned for implementing livelihood-oriented micro plans. In the second phase, another ₹2.31 crore was released, and various projects were formulated. Following consultations under the leadership of the Cabinet subcommittee, an additional ₹2 lakh was sanctioned to each beneficiary as livelihood assistance. A total of ₹5.11 crore was allocated from the CMDRF for this purpose, Mr. Siddique said.
He also said a Doppler radar being installed to closely monitor weather changes in the district and issue timely warnings would be operational by December this year.
I.C. Balakrishnan, MLA, presided. Wayanad district panchayat president Chandrika Krishnan, and District Collector D.R. Meghashree attended the function.
