The Centre has assured better air connectivity to Mysuru, with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu promising to take up pending works at Mysuru Airport and improve the city’s links with major destinations.
Mr. Naidu gave the assurance at the first-ever meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation held in Mysuru on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Naidu, with Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol as co-chairperson.
Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar urged the Centre to introduce direct flights from Mysuru to Mumbai, Kochi, Tirupati and Goa and submitted a detailed memorandum to Mr. Naidu highlighting the city’s growing aviation requirements.
Responding to the MP’s memorandum, Mr. Naidu said, “Mysuru needs better air connectivity. I am confident that Mysuru will soon get its due share. Mr. Yaduveer has been continuously following up with me for all kinds of support. I will direct my office to take up all the pending works immediately.”
Mr. Wadiyar said Mysuru needed a long-term aviation strategy rather than temporary or short-term solutions and should be developed as a strong regional aviation hub connecting it with major cities across the country.
“Mysuru needs better air connectivity. My commitment is not limited to meeting immediate requirements. I am working towards a long-term and permanent solution that will provide Mysuru with strong air links to different parts of the country,” he said.
Airport expansion
Mr. Wadiyar also urged the Union Minister to expedite the ongoing expansion and development works at Mysuru Airport.
He said the timely completion of the works was essential to handle the growing passenger traffic and facilitate the operation of additional routes and larger aircraft.
“Mysuru needs an airport commensurate with its importance and future potential. My efforts will continue to create an airport capable of effectively connecting Mysuru with different parts of the country,” he said.
Boost to tourism, business
Mr. Wadiyar said direct flights to Mumbai, Kochi, Tirupati and Goa would benefit tourists and local residents and create new opportunities for the hotel, tourism, business and services sectors.
Mysuru attracts tourists throughout the year for its heritage, palaces, Dasara, culture, yoga and wellness tourism, besides its proximity to several major tourist destinations. Direct flights to key cities would strengthen the tourism economy and encourage investment and business activity, he said.
He added that better connectivity with major aviation hubs would enable passengers from Mysuru to access destinations across India and international locations more conveniently.
Ministers visit Chamundi Hills
Mr. Naidu, Mr. Mohol and members of the Consultative Committee visited Chamundi Hills on Friday morning and offered special prayers at the Chamundeshwari Temple.
The Ministers and committee members also visited the Mysuru Palace to witness the city’s royal heritage, architecture and cultural legacy.
Mr. Wadiyar thanked the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Minister of State and the Ministry for responding to his request to hold the consultative committee meeting in Mysuru. He reiterated that he would continue to pursue the expansion of the airport and improved air connectivity with the Ministry and concerned authorities.
