“Despite its civilian status, the plant is the main manufacturer of mainline diesel locomotives, without which the stable supply of equipment, ammunition, fuel, and personnel to Russian troops would be impossible,” the statement reads.

Following a series of successful strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on Russian oil refineries, railway infrastructure, and military locomotives in 2026, the BMZ’s importance to the Kremlin has grown significantly. Today, up to 80% of all heavy military equipment and logistical supplies for the Russian army are transported by rail. Losses to the locomotive fleet forced Russian leadership to accelerate the production of new locomotives and the modernization of existing ones.

In 2026, the company began serial production preparations for the new 3TE30 mainline diesel locomotive with a power output of nearly 10,000 horsepower. A single such locomotive is capable of hauling trains weighing over 7,100 metric tons, making it one of the primary means of transporting armored vehicles, artillery, fuel, and ammunition between military districts.

Another equally important area of BMZ’s operations remains the production of diesel engines and power plants for Russian Navy ships, including the Project 22800 “Karakurt” small missile ships.

Following significant losses suffered by the Black Sea Fleet, Russian leadership is attempting to accelerate the construction of new ships, and products from the Bryansk Machine-Building Plant are a key component of this program.

During their reconnaissance, “ATESH” agents documented the locations of production buildings, railroad tracks, logistics sites, warehouse areas, the facility’s security system, and personnel movement routes.

Particular attention was paid to the infrastructure that facilitates the shipment of finished products for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“All the information gathered has already been forwarded to the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Disruptions to the Bryansk Machine-Building Plant’s operations will inevitably undermine Russia’s ability to restore rail logistics, increase the transport of military cargo, and compensate for the losses the invaders suffer daily due to the successful operations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces,” ATESH noted.

As reported by Ukrinform, “ATESH” agents conducted detailed reconnaissance of supply facilities for the Russian Black Sea Fleet near Novoozernoye in the Yevpatoria district of the temporarily occupied Crimea.
