There’s a new game coming soon on Steam that’ll delight the hell outta soulslike fans and dog-lovers alike. Stray Dog: nobody cares is like if John Wick was the dog and also trapped in the Lands Between.

Here’s the game’s Steam description:

A stray dog saved by a disgraced knight marches to rescue its captured master. Scorned by all as useless roadside trash, it grips his frayed sword in its jaws and ventures forth.

Annnd, I’m already crying. I’m a sucker for “person and their dog” games. I appreciate even more when that trope is turned on its head with an added dash of hack-and-slash action. The game cites Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice as its inspiration, calling out the game out by name in its announcement post. Though Sekiro is a part of the FromSoftware soulsborne family, it is unique among its sibling games, relying more on parrying to break an enemy’s posture bar rather than draining their health bar to make kills. It seems like Stray Dog will borrow those elements, making use of “stealth kills, precise parries, [and] brutal boss fights.”

We’ve had far too many games about cute kitties having adventures. It’s time for the dog people to get their bloody due and it seems I’m not alone. So many folks on social media are excited by the idea of playing grimdark Okami, or more accurately, a standalone Sif adventure.

There’s no release date yet for Stray Dog: nobody cares, but I’ll be looking out for this very good boy and his game.
