Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day is projected to easily top Insidious: Out of the Further in the horror film’s debut at the weekend box office.

Starring Holland as the webslinger, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, of course, has been dominating the box office domestically and worldwide since its July 31 debut. Prior to that, Holland’s first film of the summer — writer-director Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey — packed in crowds to become the global box office champ in its first two weekends of release.

As of Thursday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has earned $815.8 million in North American ticket sales and $1.262 billion internationally for a worldwide box office of $2.078 billion. On Aug. 15, the Sony Pictures Entertainment release became the eighth film in history to hit the $2 billion mark at the global box office before inflation is factored in.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s good fortunes are expected to continue in its fourth weekend of release, as Deadline projects that the film will earn $35 million from 4,006 theaters domestically and $85 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, Insidious: Out of the Further — released by Sony Pictures subsidiary Screen Gems — is projected by the studio (via The Hollywood Reporter) to earn $23 million from 3,303 venues. Sony reported early Friday that Out of the Further — which is the sixth film in the Insidious franchise that kicked off in 2011 — earned $3 million from Thursday preview screenings.

‘Spa Weekend’ Is Also Among New Releases This Weekend

Joining Insidious: Out of the Further at the box office this weekend is Black Bear Pictures’ Spa Weekend, a new raunchy comedy written and directed by The Hangover and Bad Moms scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.

Spa Weekend, which stars Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, Michelle Buteau and Anna Faris, is projected by Deadline to earn anywhere from $3 million to $5 million from 2,009 North American theaters in its opening frame.

Also new in theaters is the Jason Statham action thriller Mutiny, a Lionsgate film that is opening in 2,703 venues domestically; and Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy’s fantasy family adventure The Magic Faraway Tree, from Vertical Entertainment, is premiering in 1,611 North American locations.

Additionally, A24’s Tony, starring Dominic Sessa as the young Anthony Bourdain, is expanding to 1,652 theaters domestically on Friday after opening in limited release on Aug. 7.

Note: This box office report will be updated throughout the weekend with new information as the numbers become available. The final weekend numbers for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and other films at the box office will be released on Monday.
