Michelle Pfeiffer shocked fans earlier this month when she revealed she 'never wants to star in another movie'.

That confession sparked widespread rumors that the three-time Oscar nominee, 68, was retiring after a glittering career spanning almost five decades.

But now, the big-screen sensation, whose credits include Scarface, Batman Returns and Dangerous Liasons, has set the record straight, saying her comment was misinterpreted.

'They're always saying that I'm retiring. I never said [that],' Pfeiffer said while making an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday.

When Fallon noted she 'kind of hinted at it,' Pfeiffer responded that her comment about 'never wanting to star in another movie' simply meant that she loved working on TV projects.

Pfeiffer has appeared on two small-screen series this year: The Madison and Margo's Got Money Troubles.

'It's wonderful to be able to live with a character for such an extended period of time,' the actress explained.

She added that in television roles she is able to 'really just go deeper and find all of the different layers.'

Both The Madison and Margo's Got Money Troubles have been big hits for Pfeiffer, with the latter earning her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series.

Aside from starring on the shows, she is also an executive-producer on both projects.

Margo's Got Money Troubles, based on a novel by Rufi Thorpe, follows a young single mom (Elle Fanning) who decides to open an OnlyFans account in order to provide for her family. Pfeiffer plays Fanning's mom.

The TV adaption also stars Hollywood mainstay Nicole Kidman as well as Rico Nasty.

Michelle Pfeiffer, 68, revealed she is ready to pivot away from movie roles and focus on television, following the success of her two recent TV projects; Seen on August 2

Season 1 of Margo's Got Money Troubles is now streaming on Apple TV.

Her other project, The Madison, is a contemporary Western created by Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan.

It follows the Clyburn family as they travel to Montana following the death of patriarch Preston (Kurt Russell). She plays Preston's widow Stacy.

Pfeiffer's pivot to the small-screen isn't surprising, given she's married to TV titan David E. Kelley.

Kelley created hits including Doogie Howser, Chicago Hope, The Practice, Ally McBeal and Boston Public.

He is also the showrunner for Margo's Got Money Trouble, marking the first time he has worked with Pfeiffer, to whom he has been married since 1993.
