The Southern Railway reviewed the progress of the construction of Aroor railway bridge, the second largest railway bridge in the State, along with station redevelopment works at Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.

Vipin Kumar, additional general manager, Southern Railway, inspected the ongoing doubling works and bridge construction at Aroor railway bridge in the Alappuzha–Ernakulam section.2028

During the inspection, Mr. Kumar reviewed the progress of the construction of the bridge No. 31 at Aroor, which is one of the longest railway bridges progressing fast as part of the doubling project. The bridge is an integral part of the larger Ernakulam-Alappuzha-Ambalappuzha doubling project.

According to the officials, the piling works have almost been completed, while the launching of the girders will begin soon. There will be a total of 27 spans in the bridge, while seven spans have already reached the site, and the remaining spans will be brought to the site soon, said the officials. The bridge’s construction is expected to cost ₹150 crore.

The bridge is being constructed as part of the doubling works in the Kumbalam-Turavur stretch (15.59 km), where around 30% of the physical work has been completed. Around 90% of the land acquisition has been completed, and the doubling works, including the construction of the bridge, are expected to be completed by March, 31, 2028, said the officials.

The additional general manager later reviewed the major station redevelopment projects in Keralam at a meeting held at the Construction Headquarters Office, Ernakulam. The review covered major redevelopment projects of railway stations in Keralam, involving significant investments in modern passenger infrastructure and amenities. The largest projects include the redevelopment of Thiruvananthapuram Central at a cost of ₹438.95 crore, followed by Kollam at ₹361.17 crore and Ernakulam at ₹384.49 crore in Thiruvananthapuram Division.
