NEW DELHI: Former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee paid a heartfelt tribute to legendary singer Asha Bhosle, recalling their unique musical collaboration following her passing at the age of 92.
The unlikely partnership between Lee and Bhosle had captured widespread attention in 2007 with the release of âYouâre the One for Meâ, a track that brought together cricket and music fans and went on to become immensely popular.

Reflecting on the experience, Lee shared an emotional message, highlighting not just Bhosleâs extraordinary talent but her warmth and humility.
âI had the pleasure of writing and recording Youâre the One for Me with Asha Bhosle back in 2006. Itâs something Iâll always be incredibly grateful for. What stayed with me most wasnât just her extraordinary talent, but how kind and humble she was. For someone who had achieved so much in her life, she carried herself with such warmth and generosity. My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time. I feel very fortunate to have shared even a small moment with someone so special. Thereâs no doubt her legacy will live on for generations to come.â
In his autobiography My Life: Brett Lee, the former pacer had also opened up about the memorable collaboration, revealing that the music video was filmed during Indiaâs 2006 Champions Trophy tour. He even lent his voice to Hindi lines in the track, including âHaan, main tumhara hu, tumhara hi rahunga.â
Lee recalled keeping the project a secret from teammates, telling them he was heading out for a walk while he went to record. Months later, he reunited with Bhosle in Sydney, where she gifted him a signed compilation albumâsomething he described as one of his most treasured possessions.
Calling her a âlovely gentlewoman with a wonderful sense of humour,â Lee likened her to Aretha Franklin of Indian music. Bhosleâs passing marks the end of an era, but her legacy will continue to inspire generations.
