Cameras at CJP protest, Jantar Mantar: In pictures

The CJP protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, is seeing a massive number of people attending. “Cockroaches”, as they call themselves, are demanding the resignation of the Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan and nationwide educational reform. The government has now agreed to have talks with the Cockroach Janta Party at a neutral location, the Constitution Club of India in Central Delhi.

Allegations of ‘snooping’ by the Delhi Police and usage of surveillance tools to monitor and manage crowds at the protest site and the areas surrounding are flying around.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Delhi High Court that “At Jantar Mantar, some protest or another is always going on. These are always recorded. As a matter of fact, at this protest, hundreds of people made viral videos. This is only for the purpose of law and order. There is no snooping. There is no surveillance.”

The hearing was based on a petition by former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh, challenging what she described as the Delhi Police’s “indiscriminate and continuous surveillance.”
