SEOUL, July 24 (Yonhap) -- Hana Financial Group on Friday reported a rise in net profit in the second quarter of the year, driven by a rise in interest and non-interest incomes.

The banking group said it racked up a net profit of 1.19 trillion won (US$823 million) in the April-June period, up 1.8 percent from a year earlier.

The earnings fell behind market expectations. The average estimate of net profit by analysts stood at 1.24 trillion won, according to a survey by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data firm of Yonhap News Agency.

Hana Financial posted 1.59 trillion won in operating profit for the quarter, compared with 1.49 trillion won a year ago. Revenue also rose 13.7 percent to 27.25 trillion won.

In the first six months of the year, the group's net profit reached 2.43 trillion won, up 4.4 percent from a year earlier.

Its flagship Hana Bank reaped a net profit of 1.32 trillion won in the second quarter, down 4.4 percent from a year earlier.
