The public prosecution department reported the arrest on Thursday, saying the suspect encouraged underage girls to cut themselves and write his online name on a wall with their own blood—so-called “bloodsigns”.
He also is said to have prompted them to write his name on their bodies with a marker, known as“fansigns”. Both are practices within the Com movement—short for The Community—for members to gain prestige.
The suspect himself, who was also charged with aggravated assault, exploitation of underage girls and possession of images of sexual child abuse, was a minor at the time of the alleged crimes. Because of that, no further details are being released.
The Com network consists of various chat groups where members recruit vulnerable young people and force them to commit acts including assault, sexual abuse and murder.
The members, from all corners of the globe, then share images of these acts online in private chat groups, using such platforms as Telegram and Discord.
According to NOS, at least 70 Dutch people are involved in this movement known as “nihilistic extremism” because the incitement to commit such extreme violence doesn’t have a clear ideological motive.
The phenomenon is especially attractive to young men.
