Zelensky reveals Trump relationship was saved in 20-minute conversation

Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that his relationship with Donald Trump was saved during a 20-minute conversation at the Vatican.

The Ukrainian president sat down with right-wing US activist Laura Loomer for an interview released on Thursday (23 July), where he discussed the leaders’ heated confrontation in the Oval Office in February 2025.

Ms Loomer, who had previously been a staunch critic of Ukraine, asked Mr Zelensky how the pair’s relationship has since evolved.

“The tone has changed – absolutely. We had our first changing moment in Rome, at the Vatican. Yes, it was not a long meeting, but I always said that I think it was a historic moment, because we changed the relationship in 15, 20 minutes,” he said of the April 2025 meeting at St Peter's Basilica.
