Fjäll means "mountain." And yes, okay, there are mountains in countries other than Sweden, but the word fjäll (often used in the definite plural form fjällen, "the mountains") refers particularly to Sweden's main mountain range – its portion of the 'Scandes,' the Scandinavian Mountains which border Norway.

You can find the word fjäll in the names of particular mountains (e.g. Marsfjäll, Borgafjäll) and, of course, in the famous Swedish outdoorwear brand Fjällräven, which means 'the mountain fox."

What distinguished fjällen from some other mountains – beyond them simply being in Sweden – is their northern latitude: a mountain is ett fjäll not ett berg when it rises above the tree line. This is the case for much of the Scandinavian mountain range, which feature scrub and moss rather than trees because most are too far north for trees to grow at that altitude. 

If you find yourself in Norway, though, take note: the closely related Norwegian word, fjell, means any mountain, not just the ample northern ranges they share primarily with Sweden.

The Swedish word (along with its cousins in other modern languages descended from Old Norse) has a relative in English too: the term "fell," as a noun, is used in Scotland and some parts of northern English for a high barren peak or hill.
