Following a report earlier today, Nothing says that it is not exiting markets, but it is making some key changes behind the scenes.
To quickly summarize, a report earlier today claimed that Nothing would be exiting around a dozen global markets on the back of declining sales, as Phone (4b) sales were apparently under 20,000 units to date, and that layoffs would also be happening.
In response, Nothing’s Akis Evangelidis says that the report is inaccurate, specifically calling it “fake news.”
Evangelidis directly says that Nothing is “not shutting down any markets” and that sales numbers on Phone (4b) were inaccurate. Apparently, the company’s latest budget release sold just shy of 30,000 units just in the first day.
Sadly, though, Evangelidis confirms that the layoff portion of the story was at least partially accurate. Exact details were not shared, but Nothing is apparently reorganizing its teams and, as a result, “certain positions” have been impacted. The report claimed up to 40% of the company would be affected, which is said to be “way overblown.”
What we are doing is reorganising our teams to prepare for our next phase of growth. We are introducing dedicated business units – including an AI-native business unit – and consolidating individual countries into regional hubs to operate much more efficiently.
These changes have impacted certain positions, and while we are unable to share specific details due to regulatory compliance and ongoing local consultation processes, the reported numbers are way overblown…
Notably, the journalist responsible for this report says that Nothing was given “the entire week” to comment on the claims before the report was published, with no statement or denial provided in that time.
