Fire destroys P3.8-M gov’t school property in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – An estimated P3.8 million worth of government school property went up in smoke early Sunday in this city.

Supt. Leo Pioquinto, Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) marshal, said the fire destroyed a two-story 10-classroom school building in Taluksangay Elementary School.

“The fire that consumed the school building started around 4:28 a.m. and was contained at about 5:04 a.m.,” he said in a report.

There was no fatality or injury reported.

Pioquinto said they have yet to determine the fire’s origin as investigation continues.

Four fire trucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection’s ZCFD responded to the incident. They were backed by two water tankers from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
