Defence Force bomb squad called out after ordnance discovered in Auckland

The defence force's explosives disposal unit responded to a discovery of ordnance in North Auckland on Monday morning.

Police said they received a report at 9am after the discovery on Ara Weiti Road in Stillwater.

The New Zealand Defence Force's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squadron attended and disposed of the ordnance, police said.

Earlier this month, the NZDF and police also detonated a piece of military ordnance found on the shoreline of Ōrewa Beach.

Police had kept a perimeter around the device after it was found on 14 July.

NZDF's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team performed a controlled detonation of the device about 12pm the next day.

A loud bang could be heard from nearby Marine Parade.
