Shibas, they’re catlike and they’re not for everyone.

But people who love Shibas, accept them on their own terms, because there is special attraction between this Japanese breed and the people who would have no other.

Mushroom is a classic Shiba. Found wandering the streets, he came to ARK in January of last year and has become ensconced in the Tokyo office, where he spends a lot of time sleeping. At times, he’ll bring a toy to play with. He’ll set the toy near you and wait for you to notice.

Affectionate on his own terms, he expects people to respond on his terms too. He’ll feign a cool indifference to being noticed, but really he’s dying to be seen.

That said, Mushroom’s first love is not people. It’s food. His second love is napping.

Though he’ll come across as the strong, silent type, “Mush” cannot hide his joy when people return to the office after being away.

He’s not a fan of cats or small children and would most likely prefer to be the only canine in a household. But he will be a loyal and terrific friend for his owner. Mushroom is a great dog for the right person.
