The Indian National League (INL) has alleged that the Congress-Muslim League leadership is making a “planned attempt” to take control of the Kerala State Waqf Board to facilitate the implementation of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) agenda in the State, and called upon secular forces to unite against what it described as a dangerous political move.

Addressing a press conference after the INL State secretariat meeting here on Monday (July 27, 2026), party State president Ahammad Devarkovil and general secretary Kasim Irikkur alleged Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government had, since assuming office, been making concerted efforts to gain control of the Waqf Board and Waqf properties, including the disputed Munambam Waqf land. They said the developments had the potential to create political and social unrest in Kerala and warned of far-reaching consequences if they were not resisted.

The leaders alleged that the government was attempting to dissolve the existing Waqf Board, headed by K.S. Hamsa and constituted in February 2025, after realising that it would not support its “hidden agenda.” They accused the Chief Minister and Waqf Minister N. Samsudheen of spearheading the move.

‘Well-planned strategy’

The INL claimed that petitions challenging the legality of the present board on the grounds that it did not include two non-Muslim members and representation from the Shia-Bohra community were part of a well-planned strategy to have the board declared illegal and pave the way for implementing the provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, in Kerala through court intervention.

The party maintained that the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had constituted the present nine-member board without appointing two non-Muslim members, despite a provision in the amended law, because secular parties had opposed the legislation. It alleged that the present UDF government had now approached the Kerala High Court seeking permission to reconstitute the board by including non-Muslim members, a move it said was contrary to the stand earlier taken by the Congress and the Muslim League, both of which have challenged the Waqf (Amendment) Act before the Supreme Court.

The INL further alleged that the government’s objective was to install its nominees in the Waqf Board and influence the outcome of the Munambam Waqf case, warning that such attempts would have serious political repercussions.
