The Thiruvananthapuram City police busted an online loan app fraud operating from the city on Monday. Nearly 20 people, including those from other States, have been apprehended from a location in Sreekaryam, where the racket is suspected to have operated a call centre from, official sources said.

The suspects were taken into custody during a raid undertaken by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) under the anti-drug enforcement drive Operation Toofan. Around 50 computers were also reportedly seized from the premises.

While the police are yet to divulge further details about the extent of the scam, the racket is suspected to have undertaken large-scale online loan app scams that targeted numerous people including foreign nationals. The police had initially received intelligence which indicated that migrant workers were involved in drug trafficking in the Sreekaryam area. The location was thereby placed under surveillance based on the information. The subsequent raid led to the discovery of the loan app fraud.
