The figures were presented on Monday by Kayoko Gotoh, head of the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, during a meeting of the UN Security Council, Ukrinform's correspondent reports.

According to Gotoh, Russian strikes have hit residential buildings, playgrounds, gas stations, markets, and logistics warehouses, while Kyiv has remained under constant attack.

Overall, at least 56 civilians have been killed and 232 injured in Kyiv during July.

Gotoh also highlighted the daily use of guided aerial bombs against frontline communities in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

She noted that since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the UN has confirmed the deaths of at least 16,141 civilians, including 803 children, while 48,613 people, including 2,960 children, have been injured.

Gotoh also referred to civilian casualties in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories.

Gotoh stressed that the attacks were unacceptable, unjustifiable, and had to stop immediately, adding that the United Nations unequivocally condemned such attacks wherever they occurred.

She warned that Russia's renewed attacks on Black Sea ports and merchant vessels pose serious risks to global food security. According to Gotoh, the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk, Pivdennyi, Izmail, and Mykolaiv have been subjected to repeated strikes, while more than six attacks on civilian vessels were recorded this month alone, leaving 44 crew members dead or injured.

Citing data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Gotoh said global wheat prices have risen by 20% since the beginning of the month, reaching their highest level since March 2024.

She also expressed concern about the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, recalling that on July 15 the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported the plant's 22nd complete loss of external power since the start of the war, with 10 such incidents occurring in the past three months alone.

Gotoh urged all parties to renew diplomatic efforts.

She said that the dangerous spiral of escalation must not be allowed to continue and called on all those involved to resume dialogue and comprehensive negotiations aimed at de-escalation and achieving an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire.

According to Gotoh, such a ceasefire would be an important and necessary step toward a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in accordance with the UN Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions.

As Ukrinform previously reported, the UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting on Monday in response to Russia's attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea.
