Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri legally drops father’s last name

Suri, the daughter of former Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally dropped her father’s surname and is now using Noelle, the middle name of her mother. 

Peoples magazine reported on Monday, July 27, citing public voter registration records in Pennsylvania that the celebrity daughter registered to vote under the name “Suri Noelle.”

Noelle is Holmes’ middle name. The outlet noted that the legal name change was likely completed in New York before Suri moved to Pennsylvania for college. She is studying musical theater at Carnegie Mellon University.

Suri had already begun using Noelle in 2024, including in her high school graduation program and theater productions, but the voter registration records confirm that it is now her legal name.

Cruise and Holmes married in 2006 and welcomed Suri that same year before divorcing in 2012. Holmes was granted primary custody of their daughter following the split.

The legal name change comes after years of reports that Suri has been estranged from her father. Cruise has not been publicly seen with his daughter since his divorce from Holmes in 2012, and he was absent from her high school graduation in 2024, which Holmes attended.

In 2024, Holmes disputed a Daily Mail report that Suri became a millionaire at 18 years old after she gained access to her trust fund from Cruise.

“Completely false,” Holmes wrote on Instagram Story over a screenshot of the article at the time. “Daily Mail you can stop making stuff up. Enough.”

Holmes is currently in a relationship with New York-based contemporary artist Jason Bard Yarmosky. The pair sparked dating rumors this month after being spotted holding hands at a film screening in East Hampton.

Cruise, meanwhile, was previously linked to actress Ana de Armas in 2025. Later that year, reports surfaced that they had broken up, although they did not confirm the relationship publicly.
