The Greater Chennai Police arrested three persons in two separate cases for allegedly possessing painkiller tablets for illegal sale and seized a total of 14,060 tablets.

In the first case, a police team led by the Inspector of the Elephant Gate police station arrested D. Anand Kumar (43) of Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar near the GST Office on Elephant Gate Flyover Road on July 21 and seized 790 painkiller tablets that were concealed for sale.

During further investigation, a special team camped in Madurai district to trace another absconding accused in the case. On July 25, police arrested M.R. Anand Kumar (38) of Balarangapuram, Madurai district, and brought him to Chennai for interrogation. Police seized 12,300 tablets, comprising 3,000 nitrazepam tablets, 8,400 alprazolam tablets, and 900 clonazepam tablets, from his possession.

In another case, a police team from the Ashok Nagar police Station arrested Saravanan (20) of Sivasakthi Nagar, Mangadu, and Raguram (19) of Kovur, on the morning of July 26. Police seized 1,760 tablets, including 1,700 tapentadol tablets and 60 nitrazepam tablets, which were allegedly kept for sale.

Investigation revealed that the two accused had been travelling to Mumbai by train to procure the tablets in bulk before selling them in Chennai. Police also found that Saravanan was already facing one previous criminal case.
