The trailer of Sunny Deol’s upcoming film, Batwara 1947 was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday (July 28, 2026). Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, the film also stars Preity G. Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol and Abhimanyu Singh in pivotal roles.

The trailer introduces the violent times during the 1947 Indo-Pak Partition where Sunny’s character is forced to leave his home and start a new life across the border with his entire family. Preity plays his wife, who urges him to leave after seeing violence. When the reach their new home in a new country, they find an old Hindu woman staying in the mansion. Some extremists threaten to kill her and Sunny stands up to safeguard the old woman, whom he calls his mother. The trailer features some action-packed visuals as Sunny is seen beating people up, promising to be a hard-hitting tale exploring the effects of communalism after the Partition.

The film is written by Rajkumar Santoshi and shot by Santosh Sivan. It features music by A.R. Rahman and lyrics by Javed Akhtar with sound design by Resul Pookutty.

Batwara 1947 will be released in theatres on August 14.

Santoshi and Sunny have worked in classic action-thrillers from the 90’s like Ghayal and Damini. While the filmmaker has worked with Aamir in the cult-comedy, Andaz Apna Apna. Santoshi’s recent works include the historical fiction film, Gandhi Godse- Ek Yudh (2023) and the romantic-drama Bad Boy (2023).

Sunny was last seen in the legal-drama, Ikka and Border 2.
