Canada has long been the top destination for Indian students, but the numbers are plunging. From a surge of 7 lakh students to a massive decline in 2025, the numbers reflect Canada’s efforts to bring immigration back to sustainable levels through continued decreases in temporary resident arrivals. Data suggests that with a decline of about 66% study permits, Indians have been hit the hardest. This is yet another setback for the record number of students from India who go abroad as immigration policies have been tightening across popular destinations such as the U.S., U.K and Australia.
