The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Thrissur city district unit has protested the authorities’ failure to inform Thrissur MP and Union Minister Suresh Gopi about a review meeting convened at the collectorate to assess the progress of National Highway development works, including the Amballur underpass and the Puthukkad flyover on NH 544.

In a statement, BJP district president Justin Jacob alleged that Mr. Gopi was neither informed about the meeting nor invited to attend it, despite the discussions involving key highway infrastructure projects in the constituency.

Describing the omission as “against democratic conventions”, Mr. Jacob said the meeting was attended by Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports O.J. Janeesh, District Collector Shikha Surendran and the MLAs concerned, but the elected Member of Parliament representing Thrissur was not informed.

“The government is mixing politics with development issues and sidelining the people’s representative,” Mr. Jacob said, alleging that not informing Mr. Gopi, who is also a Union Minister, was a deliberate attempt to gain political mileage.
