There are hundreds of wildfires burning across Canada, with several threatening communities and forcing residents to flee or prepare to evacuate at a moment’s notice.
The fires have also sent smoke billowing to other parts of the country and beyond its borders, prompting air quality warnings from Environment Canada and the ire of U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened retaliatory tariffs if Canada can’t contain its fires.
On Thursday, July 30 at 1:30 p.m. ET, Globe reporter Jesse Winter and emergency physician Dr. Shazma Mithani will be answering reader questions on this year’s wildfire season, how firefighters and governments across Canada are fighting the fires and how to reduce the health effects of smoke.
Why is it so hard to put out wildfire blazes? How does poor air quality affect our health? Where are the biggest hotspots in the country? Submit your questions in the box below or send us an email at audience@globeandmail.com.
