Auckland school threat trial: Police detail discovery of guns, ammunition and firearm plans linked to Tiedan Huo

Police searching properties linked to a man alleged to have made violent threats against two Auckland schools found a blueprint for a military-style firearm and a loaded shotgun in a bedroom.

Tiedan Huo is on trial in Manukau District Court, where it's alleged he threatened to kill students and staff at Waiuku and Rutherford colleges, and to damage or destroy two police stations and Parliament buildings.

He's also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and of explosives, and possession of objectionable material.

The charges stem from a manifesto, it's alleged Huo distributed early on the morning of 12 March last year.

Huo denies the charges.

The officer in charge of exhibits, Detective Constable Daniel MacKenzie, took the stand today to describe the search of a house in Mangere East and then of a large farm in Waiuku.

Among items located at the Mangere East property was a cellphone wrapped in tinfoil inside a box.

At the Waiuku farm, officers located a blueprint diagram for an AR-15 assault rifle in a bedroom they'd been told was Huo's. The now-banned firearm is the same type that was used by the Christchurch terrorist.

MacKenzie said they also found a loaded pump-action shotgun on the bed, as well as 96 shotgun cartridges.

A box containing a further 250 cartridges was found in the living area.

Police also located a 3D printer, firearms parts, a machete, a knife, and multiple spent shotgun cartridges.

"There were numerous expended shotgun rounds in the kitchen on the bench, and also observed on the front deck."

The detective described the main house on the property as being extremely messy.

A second shotgun was found inside a gun case in a different bedroom.

Huo's mother had a firearms licence, and he is not charged in connection with this weapon.

The jury is expected to be shown a video recording of Huo's interview with police this afternoon.
