The game is about to change once again. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World, reuniting the franchise’s core cast for a globe-spanning adventure that promises to bring the modern Jumanji saga to its conclusion.

Directed by Jake Kasdan, the film picks up after the events of Jumanji: The Next Level, but this time the danger no longer remains confined to the game. The trailer reveals that Jumanji has broken free into the real world, unleashing its creatures, characters and chaos beyond the confines of the magical console.

Dwayne Johnson returns as Dr. Smolder Bravestone alongside Kevin Hart’s Mouse Finbar, Jack Black’s Professor Shelly Oberon and Karen Gillan’s Ruby Roundhouse. The younger cast members, including Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain and Morgan Turner, also reprise their roles, joined once again by Danny DeVito, Awkwafina, Nick Jonas and Rhys Darby. New additions include Burn Gorman and Nasim Pedrad.

Sony first unveiled footage from the film at CinemaCon earlier this year, where Johnson described Open World as the biggest instalment in the series and confirmed it would serve as the franchise’s final adventure. The actor also revealed that the film includes several tributes to Robin Williams, whose performance in the 1995 Jumanji remains central to the series’ legacy.

Inspired by Chris Van Allsburg’s beloved book, the modern Jumanji films reinvented the property as a video game adventure beginning with 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide before spawning The Next Level in 2019.

Jumanji: Open World opens in cinemas on December 25, 2026, setting up one of the year’s biggest holiday box office battles.
