A security guard discovered a human head on a cricket ground near Varthur early on July 29 morning, and alerted the police control room in Bengaluru.

While Varthur police were investigating, officers from the Baiyappanahalli Railway Police, who had registered an unnatural death (UDR) case after finding a headless body on a railway track about 300 metres away, arrived at the ground in search of the missing head.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was struck by a train on July 28 night, and his head was severed by the impact. Police suspect that a pack of stray dogs might have carried the severed head from the railway track to the nearby cricket ground.

The deceased has been identified as Vishwanath (25), a native of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, who was working in a private firm in Bengaluru.

The Baiyappanahalli Railway Police have informed the victim’s family, and are trying to establish the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
