The Andhra Pradesh unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) has welcomed the State government’s decision to initiate the long-pending recruitment of faculty in State universities, IIITs and other higher education institutions.

In a representation submitted to Education Minister Nara Lokesh, Principal Secretary (Higher Education) Kona Sasidhar, Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman K. Madhumurthy and Commissioner of Higher Education Narayana Bharath Gupta, the association urged the government to relax the eligibility criteria for temporary teaching staff applying for Associate Professor posts.

The ABRSM requested that Academic Consultants, Guest Faculty, Teaching Assistants and other faculty members serving in State universities, engineering colleges, degree colleges and other higher education institutions on consolidated or nominal remuneration be allowed to establish their teaching experience through service certificates, appointment orders, experience certificates or other authentic institutional records, instead of mandatorily producing salary slips and Income Tax Returns (ITRs).

Association leaders said many temporary faculty members, despite years of dedicated service and significant academic contributions, were unable to furnish salary slips or ITRs because of the nature of their appointments.

The ABRSM also appealed to the government to extend the deadline for submission of certificates and supporting documents by one week, citing genuine difficulties faced by candidates in obtaining the required records within the stipulated time.

The association said the recruitment process should uphold transparency, fairness and merit to ensure the selection of deserving candidates and strengthen the quality of higher education in the State.

The delegation included State president Y. V. Rami Reddy, State general secretary D. S. V. S. Balasubramanyam and State additional general secretary G. Rajashekar.
