Truck helper killed after mixer truck rolls backward in Samboan
LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — A 53-year-old truck helper was killed after he was struck by a concrete mixer truck that rolled backward due to an apparent mechanical failure in Barangay Cambigong, Samboan town, on Tuesday afternoon, July 28, 2026.
The victim was identified as Reymund Alberca Lanticse, 53, single, a truck helper, and a resident of Sitio Dubdub, Barangay Bogo, Argao town.
According to the Samboan Municipal Police Station, officers responded to a report from a concerned citizen about the incident.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found the victim lying beside the road. He was unresponsive.
Initial investigation showed that the concrete mixer truck, driven by Jeffrey Cadungog Famulagan, 39, married, and a resident of Sitio Dubdub, Barangay Bogo, Argao, was on its way to Barangay Canyorong to deliver cement for a road concreting project.
While traversing an uphill section of the road in Barangay Cambigong, the truck reportedly suffered a mechanical failure, causing it to roll backward uncontrollably. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
Police said Lanticse, who was on the truck’s ladder near the passenger door while lifting electric wires to allow the vehicle to pass, managed to jump from the truck. However, he was struck by the reversing mixer truck.
He was rushed by an RHU ambulance to the Samboan Rural Health Unit but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The driver is currently under the custody of the Samboan Municipal Police Station and is expected to face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
