AP Power Generation Corporation (AP-Genco) Managing Director S. Nagalakshmi on Wednesday directed the officials to operate all thermal generating units, including the 800 MW Stage-V supercritical unit, at their optimum capacities, stressing that there should be no compromise on power generation.

“Maximising generation efficiency is critical to meet the State’s growing electricity demand, while ensuring a stable and reliable power supply to the grid,” she emphasised in a review meeting at Dr. Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) here after inspecting the generating units, coal handling facilities, boilers, turbines, switchyard, maintenance systems and safety infrastructure.

The meering was attended by AP-Genco Director (Thermal) P. Ashok Kumar Reddy and other senior officials.

On the occasion, Ms. Nagalakshmi said efforts should be made to further improve the Plant Load Factor (PLF) by strengthening preventive and predictive maintenance practices and called for continuous monitoring to minimise tripping incidents, equipment failures and technical disruptions, and to optimise the plant’s heat rate to improve fuel efficiency and reduce the overall cost of power generation. She stressed the importance of timely execution of capital overhaul / Renovation & Modernisation (R&M) works of Unit-5 and generator and boiler works of the Unit-4.

Highlighting the importance of fuel security, Ms. Nagalakshmi instructed the officials to maintain coal stocks sufficient for at least 10 days of operation at all times and insisted that there should be close coordination with coal supply companies and the Railways to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability, particularly during the periods of high electricity demand.

Referring to the prevailing El Niño conditions, she observed that electricity consumption in the State was likely to increase significantly in the coming months and directed the engineers and technical personnel to ensure stable generation from all operational units so that the grid could seamlessly meet the rising demand. In compliance with the environmental norms prescribed by the Central and State Pollution Control Boards, necessary steps should be taken on the Expression of Interest floated for upgrading the electrostatic precipitators of Units 1 to 6.
