Drone footage shows devastation inside Japanese mall after deadly explosion and earthquake
Drone footage shows the devastation inside the Aeon Mall in Kuamono, after an explosion tore through the building on Tuesday (28 July).
Three workers have been killed and three others remain missing following the explosion at the south Japan mall, which houses approximately 200 stores. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
Video released on Wednesday (29 July) by the Japan Self Defense Forces 8th Reconnaissance Regiment shows a drone flying through the damaged mall as it searched for survivors. Additional footage shared by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency shows emergency crews also attempting to find victims amongst the wreckage.
It came just an hour after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit the region, killing at least 13 people, injuring hundreds and leaving thousands of households without power. A massive search remains underway to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble.
