A gang allegedly hurled three country-made crackers outside the residence of a DMK functionary in Kavanur near Padappai of Kancheepuram district on Tuesday night, reportedly following a dispute during a funeral procession.

According to the Padappai police, the incident stemmed from an altercation involving Jaganathan, treasurer of the Kavanur Panchayat DMK unit, and his sons, Sujith and Subash, during a funeral procession in the village.

The police said two youths, identified as Srinath, 20, and Deepak, 19, allegedly picked up a quarrel with Jaganathan’s sons in an inebriated state. Following the confrontation, Jaganathan’s family left the venue.

Later in the night, Srinath and Deepak, accompanied by two unidentified associates, allegedly went to Jaganathan’s house and threw three country-made crackers in front of the residence before escaping. No injuries or property damage were reported. The police launched a hunt to trace the suspects involved in the incident.
