The news that Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Sinners) would be remaking the heist thriller The Thomas Crown Affair was first announced over a decade ago. Today, Amazon MGM Studios has finally released the first trailer for the film. It was worth the wait.

The movie, which will be released in theaters on March 5, 2027, follows Jordan in the titular role. Thomas Crown is a billionaire with a passion for art theft, something he pursues less for money and more for the thrill. After stealing a painting under the cover of a separate heist gone wrong, Crown begins a cat-and-mouse game with an insurance investigator played by Adria Arjona (Andor, Morbius), and the two fall in love. Jordan will also direct and produce the film; it will be his second outing as director, after 2023's Creed 3.

The trailer itself is dripping with style, making Crown's criminal games look as attractive as he believes them to be. There are beautiful people, fast cars, fancy dresses, tuxedos, and scenic vistas. Jordan is really putting on his best Bond impression in the trailer and it is working. Fans of Christopher Nolan's underappreciated film Tenet are also sure to get excited by the presence of Kenneth Branagh as well as a bungee jumping sequence up the side of a building.

This will be the second remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. The original movie came out in 1968 and starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway as the central couple, though this version was more about bank robbery than art theft. The film was remade in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan (in the middle of his stint as Bond) and Rene Russo in the leading roles. The 1999 film introduced Crown as an art thief, something Jordan's version seems to be running with.

Jordan and Arjona will be joined by a supporting cast that includes Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon) and Danai Gurira (Black Panther), among others.
