Guard's accidental gunshot kills man visiting bank in city

NEW DELHI: A 27-year-old customer visiting a Union Bank branch in southwest Delhi's Jaffarpur Kalan to update his Aadhaar card was killed Tuesday after the security guard's gun went off accidentally.

Vinod later told police that he reported late for duty Tuesday and by the time he started loading the cartridges, customers and bank employees had already started pouring in.

Vinod private firm staffer, served in Army till 2018

Cops are also scanning CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events

According to police, Vinod, a resident of Majri village in Haryanaâs Jhajjar district, served in the Army before retiring in 2018 and had been working with a private security agency for the past two years. Investigators said he was posted at the bank as part of his security duties. He has two sons â one is pursuing an MD course while the other is studying MBBS.
