Cebu’s Pasundayag and Pasidungog in August—here’s what to expect

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Cebu Province will bring its towns together for two celebrations on August 29, 2026, with the Pasundayag sa Pagtuo returning for its second year and Pasidungog launching its festival activities.

The celebrations are part of Cebu Province’s 457th Founding Anniversary, with the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) describing these as showcases of local culture and faith.

PTO head Rowena Montecillo said that preparations remain underway, with around ₱20 million allocated for the events. This includes production costs, subsidies for participating contingents, and incentives for volunteers.

Both events will be staged at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), with each carrying a different focus and format for this year’s celebration.

Launching the Pasidungog

This year will mark the introduction of Pasidungog, a scaled-down event that will serve as the launch for next year’s province-wide festival competition.

It differs from Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, the larger festival competition held during the previous Capitol administration, as this year’s Pasidungog will not yet be a competition.

Seven local government units have confirmed their participation: Borbon, Carmen, Dumanjug, Argao, Naga City, Carcar City, and Toledo City.

“This is voluntary,” Montecillo noted. “This is not yet the Pasidungog itself. It will hopefully happen next year.”

Montecillo said that she hopes Pasidungog will eventually become a regular event held at a specific time each year, similar to festivals that draw both tourists and residents.

She added that each participating municipality will receive around ₱2 million in subsidies to help cover preparation and logistical expenses for its participation.

Pasundayag sa Pagtuo

Meanwhile, Pasundayag sa Pagtuo will feature a solemn procession of patron saints from different localities as part of the province’s cultural and religious celebration.

Carrozas, or floats, will carry the sacred icons from the Cebu Provincial Capitol to Fuente Osmeña before proceeding to the CCSC.

Montecillo said that mainland towns will receive around ₱100,000 each, while island municipalities will get ₱120,000, with the additional amount intended to support their logistical needs.

“This is our way of helping them feature their festivals and carrozas,” she shared.

Hoping for full attendance

The PTO has yet to release an official list of participants as coordination continues, although Montecillo said she hopes for 100 percent attendance, similar to last year’s Pasundayag.

She said that Governor Pamela Baricuatro has yet to formally invite the mayors to participate in the events, particularly in the Pasundayag sa Pagtuo.

“Last year, everybody participated. We are looking forward to the participation of all the towns under the province. We are also inviting Lapu-Lapu and Cebu City,” Montecillo shared.
