A university campus in Brisbane’s south has been evacuated after a car fire spread to nearby bushland and a burned man was taken to hospital.

The car was reported ablaze on Ring Road at Griffith University in Nathan at 8.42am on Thursday.

A man, aged in his 40s, suffered superficial burns to his arms, hands and face.

He was taken in a stable condition to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

While the burning vehicle was extinguished quickly, the fire had spread to nearby vegetation.

Paramedics did not assess other patients, but remained at the scene while fire crews put out the flames.

Two fire crews remained at the university.

In a statement released after 10am, the university said a “precautionary evacuation lasted one hour and all students have now returned to their buildings and resumed classes”.

Police urged people to avoid the area.
