Fwends reunite! The original stars of The Inbetweeners are reportedly returning in a Netflix reboot, quieting concern from fans that they’d be recast with younger actors.

In October 2025, creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris confirmed the Channel 4 sitcom, which followed the adolescent travails of four foul-mouthed teens, would be coming back.

It wasn’t confirmed at the time whether Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison would be cast in the series, with Buckley claiming as recently as February that he hadn’t been approached.

However, according to new reports, the actors will be reprising their roles as socially inept schoolmates Will, Simon, Jay and Neil, with producers hoping to also sign up Rivals star Emily Atack, who played the popular Charlotte Hinchcliffe.

”The creators of the show have written the script and are ready to roll – but Emily is one of the missing pieces in the project they’re keen to get in place,” a source told The Sun.

“Fans will already be delighted that the four main leads are returning as there was concern that a reboot might see new, younger actors cast in the roles of the lads, who were all supposed to be teenagers in the show.”

This suggests the script has been approved by Buckley, who said in February the reboot should not be watered down for modern audiences.

“I think the temperature at the moment is that people would like an Inbetweeners,” he said. “It would release some sort of pressure. Just make sure we keep all that silly, disgusting humour. That’s what I assume people would want.”

The actor is currently one of the most popular celebrities on personalised video app Cameo, where he is regularly requested to deliver Jay’s lewd catchphrases. He joined the video platform in March 2020 and is reported to have become the app’s first millionaire in September 2022.

Whatever happens, fans are hoping the reboot will be better than their last reunion: a two-hour special that aired on New Year’s Day in 2019, marking the 10th anniversary of the sitcom’s debut.

The special received overall negative feedback, with many claiming it seemed as though the four actors did not want to be there. Critics dubbed the special “shambolic”, with Buckley admitting that it a “mistake”.

Originally broadcast on E4 from 2008 to 2010, The Inbetweeners was conceived as a more realistic counterpoint to the darker teen drama Skins. It went on to become a surprise phenomenon, pulling record audiences and winning a Bafta Audience Award in 2010.

Two films followed –The Inbetweeners Movie in 2011 and The Inbetweeners 2 in 2014 – which together grossed over £100m worldwide, setting box-office records for UK comedies.
